AUDIOPHILE HOT-RODDING THE B-3 & 122
"Superstock®" is the term we use for instruments
that have undergone our unique, innovative restoration and enhancement
process. You may recognize "superstock" as an automobile racing
term. The comparison is intentional. In the racecar world, "superstocking"
an engine means "blueprinting" it to correct tolerances so it
can be used in high-performance applications. This is exactly the design
concept we follow when we Superstock® a B-3 and Leslie. In our approach,
we keep the original "stock" vacuum tube pre-amp and power amp
to maintain warmth. We then correctly restore and blueprint all components
to original specification and exact tolerance.
It is important to note here our discovery that in the original manufacture
of Hammond and Leslie products the components used were only required to
be within a 10% tolerance range. We have corrected for this. In most cases
we have found through experimentation that we can improve and greatly enhance
tonality simply by using a higher grade of component than was originally
available at the time of manufacture. We have also found that by using
a few component substitutions at key points within the audio chain additional
dramatic results are achieved.
In some instances the results are subtle enhancements, in others our substitutions make for obvious improvements in tonality --
more warmth; more gain; exceptional transparency and smoothness with clearer more distinct highs; stronger, deeper, rounder bass;
and overall improved balance and tightness. This is where we get
the "Super" in Superstock®
